As W32.blaster, Sobig, and earlier virus threats have shown, the Internet is not a terribly safe place to connect your PC. Besides updating Windows and your Internet applications regularly, please, I beg you, install two key utilities--a firewall and antivirus software--to ward off future attacks. And if you install any of the products I recommend below, the ounce of prevention won't cost you a dime.

McAfee Antivirus is a program that can search for, detect, and clean, virus' on your PC/Macintosh. I personally like the fact the McAfee antivirus is particulary good at finding spy/adware and removing it. McAfee Antivirus is only recommended for single computers or simple networks of four computers or smaller. McAfee antivirus is a good product, there are better and worse but Ido not think that you need to change it. I've found that Mcafee Antivirus is the easiest to install and configure. McAfee Antivirus has always been my personal favorite.

Do not open any e-mail message unless you know what is it about, even if it comes from a friend or partner. Most viruses spread via e-mail messages so please ask for a confirmation from the sender if you are in anny doubt.

Using an antivirus scanner to scan your email is not necessary if the scanner is also configured for autoprotect since Outlook saves all attachments to a temp folder before opening and the scanner will detect a virus at that time. In many cases, you can easily recognize potentially infected messages and will delete them without opening them, with or without an antivirus scanner.
